Yoga and Vegetarianism: The Diet of Enlightenment

Drawing upon her studies of Vedic traditions, Sharron Gannon explores how the physical and spiritual practice of Yoga is historically and structurally tied to a vegetarian lifestyle. Integral to one another, both Yoga and Vegetarianism form a framework for physical and spiritual attunement, and when practiced as a whole provide engender an incomparably healthy lifestyle.

In 1984 Yogini Sharon Gannon and David Life created the Jivamukti Yoga Method, which is a path to enlightenment through compassion for all beings, emphasizing vinyasa, scriptural study, devotion, prayer, music, meditation as well as animal rights, veganism, and environmentalism. Sharon has studied yoga since 1976, under the tutelage of various gurus such as Shri Brahmananda Saraswati, Swami Nirmalananda, and Shri K. Pattabhi Jois. Sharon brings a rare blend of scholarly study, artistic pursuits and a highly disciplined asana and meditation practice to her offerings as a teacher. Sharon is a renowned teacher around the globe and since 1993 she has presented annually at various national and international conferences hosted by The Omega Institute, Yoga Journal, Asian Conferences and others. As an animal-rights activist she argues for ethical veganism and animal-rights awareness. Previously, she was nominated for the "Gutsiest Woman of the Year 1999" by Jane Magazine, and In 2003 she lived up to the name appearing on a video screen in Times Square behind the New Years Ball to advocate Yoga and Vegetarianism.
