Why would a father want to kill his own son Prählada, who was gentle, saintly, kind and compassionate to all? At the age of five years, Prählada was a fully surrendered devotee of Lord Krsna. That was his only fault. His atheistic father could not tolerate his son’s devotion to the Supreme Lord, so he tormented his own son. Prahläda, from his childhood, was absorbed in Krsna consciousness. Being always embraced by the Lord, he was unaware of how his bodily necessities were being automatically performed. Sometimes he cried, laughed, and sang loudly. Sometimes he imitated the Lord’s pastimes. Anyone who saw him became purified.

Although Prählada’s father tried to kill him in so many ways, Prählada was fearless, because he always perceived the Lord in all circumstances in his life. After his father’s death, Lord Narasimhadeva was in such an angry mood that none of the demigods could pacify him. When Lord Narasimhadeva saw Prählada fallen in obeisances at His feet, He picked him up with great affection, put him on His lap and put His hand on Prählada’s head. Prählada felt great ecstasy and offered beautiful prayers to Lord Narasimhadeva. Prählada requested the Lord to give him the service of his spiritual master Närada Muni. He also said that he did not want to go back to Godhead alone, but he wanted to take all suffering humanity with him. Lord Narasimhadeva was pacified and pleased and gave Prählada all the benedictions he desired.
