Canto One brings us to the forest of Naimisaranya 5000 years ago where sages have gathered to try to counteract the advent of the degraded age of Kali. Originally spoken by Sukadeva Gosvami to King Pariksit, the Bhagavatam’s history is revealed along with narratives of the lives of the author Vyasadeva and his guru Narada Muni. In this canto Lord Krishna will appear driving Arjuna’s chariot and we will follow Him as He leaves Hastinapur to go to Dvarak

Filled with the intense feelings of separation of Krishna’s devotees, this canto gives us a glimpse of the sweet relationships one can have with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Krishna. Queen Kunti prays for Krishna not to leave for Dvaraka, Bhisma offers prayers at the time of his death and finally the residents of Dvaraka awake from their long separation from Him to lovingly greet Krishna when he returns. Arjuna and his brothers go to the Himalayas after Lord Krsna’s departure from this planet, and Arjuna’s grandson Pariksit becomes king. Pariksit stops the advance of Kali-yuga, but then is cursed to die in seven days. Thus he prepares to sit on the bank of the Ganges while fasting from food and drink to hear the whole Bhagavatam from Sukadeva Gosvami.
Canto One contains a pictorial overview (a picture for every verse) with a written overview at the end of each chapter.
