In this canto we hear the glories of King Prthu, an incarnation of the Lord, who rules the earth as a perfect king. When the earth takes the form of a cow, Prthu milks the earth to get herbs to feed his citizens. We also hear most beautiful prayers sung by Lord Siva to the Lord. At the end, Lord Matsya also appears to save the sages and King Satyavrata from universal devastation.

Following in the footsteps of King Prthu, all the residents throughout the universe milk the earth to get their necessities of life. Great sages milked knowledge, demons got liquor, Gandharvas and Apsaras got music and beauty. Narada Muni gives instructions to Prthu’s descendant Barhisat by speaking a wonderful analogical story of a character called Puranjana. Finally, Narada concludes that our eternal friend is the Lord in the heart who has been living with us for thousands of years. If we hear His instructions, then we will regain our eternal spiritual nature.

Canto 4.2 contains a pictorial overview (a picture for every verse) with a written overview at the end of each chapter.
